Processor markup

Mid-qualified surcharge

On a statement: MID-QUAL SURCHARGE

The middle tier on a tiered plan: transactions that didn't meet the processor's 'qualified' rules but weren't pushed all the way to non-qualified. Often rewards cards that were tapped or dipped. Part of this reflects genuinely higher interchange on rewards cards; the rest is processor margin dressed up as a card-type difference.

What a fair version looks like

$0 on interchange-plus. If you're on tiers, mid-qual plus non-qual together should be a small fraction of volume, not a quarter of it.

What 321 Swipe would do

Same fix as non-qualified: interchange-plus pricing makes the tiers disappear and shows you the true cost of each card.
